Karto recently demonstrated a web-services-based mapping capability in cooperation with Robosoft and the Microsoft Robotics Studio group at RoboBusiness 2007 in Boston, MA.
The demonstration consisted of a Robosoft robuLAB 80 mobile platform with a SICK S3000 CMS laser system. The robuLAB 80 is powered by Microsoft Robotics Studio with the Karto thin-client plug-in sending range scan data via SOAP messages to the Karto map generation server. For the purposes of the demonstration, we set up the server onsite (which can be seen as the notebook computer on top of the robot platform in the photo below).
